I wrote yesterday about the book by Karen Kingsbury that I just finished. The main character had a very strong relationship with her grandmother. It really got me thinking about my grandparents. I have very fond memories of my mom's parents in particular. They used to own a farm and we had free reign of the place when we were there. One of my favorite memories is spending hours with my cousins playing in the hay barn. Isn't it funny how such simple things can stick with us for so long? I also remember that my grandma ALWAYS had cookies and also would keep popsicles in the freezer in the garage. We would first check to see if there were popsicles in the freezer and then send my little sister in to ask. It didn't matter if dinner was going to be in 10 minutes my grandma would always say, "ahh yahh" in her sweet german accent. Just thinking about that makes me smile. I wish she would have lived long enough for me to get to know her better.

Alrighty, now for another card I created this weekend.
That cute little bird is from some SEI paper I had laying around, the Chick-a-Doo line I think. I cut off the feathers on his head and added my own with some colored wire I had. Are there any scrappers out there that remember that wire. You know, from the days of wire art on layouts. I bought a whole bunch of it and never used it. It sure makes cute head feathers though. :)

Hi Lisa! That's amazing that you sold your house so fast! Congratulations! Have you found a new house? I have great memories of my grandmothers! Both pasted away in the past few years. They were 88 and 94! With one, she had season tickets to the Washington Redskins, and we had fun going to the games. She also had a place in Ocean City, MD and we went for a week every summer! She had so much fun with my kids! With the other, she lived out of town and we loved our visits! She also went to the beach with us, and rode the waves as we sang Christmas songs in the ocean (in June)! She was very funny, and loved the great-grandkids too! We really miss them both. My one grandfather was killed in WWII when my mom was 1 yr. old. My other grandfather passed away when I was 13. We loved spending time with him! He would let my brother and I "fix" his hair!! As for "grandmother memories" I have too many to list here. My grandmother passed away this past July. She was a character and a half. You got me thinking about a special tribute page I need to scrap about her. Thanks for sharing.

Yooohoooo! Good for you, girlie! So glad it happened! The popsicles out of the grandma's garage freezer were the best! She had the unusual flavors like root beer, and it seems like we had to reach a bit deeper for them, too, making them all the sweeter. I like the way we could hear your grandma's accent just by reading your blog. Nice writing, chickie!

I didn't have the closest relationship with my actual grandparents, but the older couple who babysat me growing up were like stand-in grandparents. Like you noted, life with them was just simpler. I can remember sitting on their front porch shelling peas or standing in the backyard watching Teen run clothes through the old wringer-washer...I really miss them both, and I'm so glad that my kids have a much stronger relationship with their grandparents. There's so much that you get from a relationship like that, that you don't get from your parents...it's a different experience entirely.

I miss my grandmother very much. I always felt like an odd bird in my family - except when around my grandmother who I could relate to more than anyone else. She was very independent and worked before most women worked, and she was incredibly patient.
Thank you for posting on my blog earlier. I feel comforted knowing that people have said prayers for me, and hopefully I will have good news this week.
